Wednesday March 25
7:00pm to 9:00pm
Featuring presenter Andrew Starzynski, TWS Grade 11 Advisor and Math Teacher
Few subjects demand as much rigor as mathematics. There is a right answer waiting to be found, though the path to it looks different for every student. What may come easily at first often requires greater effort as math grows more complex. This struggle awakens and matures the capacity for thinking.
Math is also filled with rhythm, beauty, and meaning. In the early grades we sing and stomp multiplication tables. We draw beautiful images connected with the numbers and processes. Math stories reveal deeper levels of meaning and truthfulness. In the middle grades, theses images turn into formulas and loftier concepts. In high school, math and philosophy merge.
Rhythm, beauty, and meaning balance the rigor and make the study of mathematics health promoting and engaging for all students.
We’ll talk math and do hands-on activities, travelling from Grade 1 all the way through high school The only perquisites are an open mind and an enthusiastic spirit.
