Instrumental Music Teacher

About Our School:

Toronto Waldorf School, founded in 1968, serves over 350 students and their parents from birth through Grade 12.  We are located just north of Toronto, Ontario on about 18 acres including a large wooded area and a section of protected ecological ravine. We serve a diverse multicultural community.   Our unique building was designed to be a Waldorf school from the ground up.  We have a large and dynamic faculty and staff, with a diverse mix of experience and backgrounds. Several anthroposophically-based organizations work alongside us on our campus including a residence for seniors, and the Rudolf Steiner Centre for adult education.  Our school is accredited by AWSNA (Association of Waldorf Schools of North America) and we offer an Ontario Ministry of Education High School Graduation Diploma which enables University and College entrance, along with our Waldorf Diploma in Grade 12.

 

Job Summary:

Music is a significant foundational element of both our curriculum and our school community. This position carries the responsibility for the instrumental music program from the Grade 3 Introduction to strings through the High School Orchestra.  This includes collaborating with other music teachers at the school to create a cohesive and inspiring music program, and collaborating with performance arts faculty and the general teaching faculty to integrate music into our overall program. Other lessons will be assigned to complete the full-time teaching load, and are established in the late spring of each school year for the following year.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leading the Lower School Instrumental program, including the following classes:
  • Grades 5/6/7/8 Wind Ensemble, Grades 5/6/7/8 String Ensemble, Grade 4 Wind Ensemble
  • High School Orchestra
  • The oversight and coordination with the private music teachers.
  • Conducting at Parent Festivals and other performances as determined by the Music Department.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Music Education Degree or equivalent music teaching
  • Minimum of two years teaching or related
  • Junior/Intermediate/Senior Grades Strings
  • Comfort in working with Winds and Strings.
  • Willingness to work with colleagues and parents in a collaborative community
  • Willingness to work with, learn and apply Waldorf teaching

 

Compensation:

Salary range is between $51,214.80 to $82,533 for a fulltime position and is determined based on years of experience and education. Benefits plan includes RSP contribution, health, vision, dental coverage and tuition remission.
