Building Caretaker

Position Description:
The Building Caretaker is responsible for the general maintenance of the Toronto Waldorf School buildings and grounds. The Building Caretaker also supervises contract workers and seasonal workers.
The primary reporting relationship is to the Director of Finance and Administration.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of, and ability to perform “handy man” jobs including plumbing, carpentry, cleaning and landscaping
- Strong communication skills
- Strong problem solving skills
- Previous experience managing the physical operations of a building (75,000 sq. ft.) and grounds (20 acres). Experience in a school would be a definite asset.
- Familiar with Health and Safety and Ministry of Labour compliance relating directly to the ongoing maintenance of a school facility.
Responsibilities
- Carry out daily, monthly and seasonal maintenance schedules.
- Manage the maintenance of the TWS buildings, driveways, parking lots, and surfaced walking
- Ensure that the school facilities are compliant with all Health and Safety, AODA, and Ministry of Labour regulations.
- In collaboration with the DFA, and Faculty, establish priorities and an annual maintenance budget plan for the development and maintenance of the school buildings.
- Participate as an active member and staff resource person to the Health and Safety Committee.
- Identify potential risks and develop recommendations for consideration as needed.
- Supervise contract and seasonal maintenance staff as required.
Hours and Compensation
- 7:00a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
- Salary range is between $55,000 and $65,000 for a fulltime position and is determined based on years of experience and education. Benefits plan includes RSP contribution, health, vision, and dental coverage.
